Abstract
This paper describes an algorithm for ball detection and tracking by a robot using image processing. Complex scenes lead to false detection of various objects other than a tennis ball resulting in false data and robot imprecision. We evaluated our approach for ball detection by a robot through use of contour method and centroid of the ball as a distance measure and colour intensity level as detection of the ball itself. Rotation of camera for ball detection and tracking is controlled through a laptop via wireless fidelity.
