Abstract

Precision farming has garnered significant attention for its ability to enhance productivity, optimize resource utilization, and promote sustainable agricultural practices. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of precision farming and its integration with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to unlock its full potential. The chapter emphasizes the importance of precision farming in modern agriculture, addressing challenges such as resource scarcity and environmental impact. It explores the role of AI in revolutionizing various aspects of precision farming, including data-driven decision-making, task automation, and overall farm management improvements. While AI offers immense opportunities, challenges like data quality, interpretability, and ethical considerations need attention for successful implementation. The chapter covers diverse areas within precision farming, including data collection techniques like remote sensing, satellite imagery analysis, UAVs, and IoT sensors. It delves into AI applications in crop monitoring and management, such as yield prediction, disease detection, weed management, and optimization of nutrients and irrigation. Precision planting, livestock monitoring, harvesting, decision support systems, robotics, and machine learning are also examined. Real-life case studies highlight successful AI applications in precision farming.
