摘要

: As the role of robotics in thoracic surgery continues to expand and evolve, its incorporation into resident education and training requires careful review. Currently, there is no standardized curriculum or path to credentialing. Here we examine the literature and evidence regarding optimal training and education, and describe essential elements necessary for the successful implementation of a thoracic surgery robotic training program. A formalized curriculum, proficient faculty mentors, dual-console platforms, dedicated bedside assistants, robotics nursing team, simulation, and annual training are all necessary components to maintain an effective training program. As technology continues to improve, robotics will undoubtably become an increasingly important skill set. The next generation of thoracic surgeons should be proficient in open, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), and robotic techniques.
