摘要

Artificial intelligence (AI) is finding its way into all stages of architectural productions. Historically, it was conceptualized as a machine-assisted design process in which the capabilities of human designers are expanded. This chapter presents research that investigates modes of collaboration between architects and machines based on machine learning (ML). A specific focus is set on combinatorial aspects of discrete elements designed for robotic assembly. The researchers explore modular design processes, concepts for autonomous robots, and man–machine collaboration that challenges the classical separation between design and construction. ML and simulation tools enhance the conventional design process and enable advanced architectural predictions. ML is understood as a means to amplify human skills with AI to tackle the global challenges of architectural production today and in the future.
