摘要

In Life Science Automation Laboratories, mobile robots play an increasing role in transporting labware and samples across different floors for various experiments. The robots have to use the elevator to accomplish transport tasks. However, the proprietary nature of elevators poses a unique challenge. They can be called to specific floors, but usually do not offer other necessary information regarding door status or the current floor level. This impedes interaction between the robots and elevators. An IoT-based solution is presented that addresses this issue by developing a C# software called Virtual PLC that links the Automated Guided Vehicle Interface Controllers (AIC) with the elevators and IoT modules. Ultrasonic sensors are integrated with the IoT module for door status detection. Air pressure sensors are used for identifying the current floor level. Based on the laboratory internal network, this integration ensures a coherent and responsive interaction within the automated workflow, advancing the operational efficiency of robotic transport in multi-floor laboratory settings.
