摘要

This chapter focuses specifically on digital makers who, like Shurbham Banerjee, are creating with technology and computing devices, though often with fewer resources. It provides evidence for the relationship between experience with a set of digital hobbies, such as website creation, digital art, and robotics. It provides set of dispositions that are posited to be important for young people to capitalize on new technologies to enhance their own lives and contribute to the well-being of their local communities. The chapter presents an assessment approach based on the Digital Youth Network (DYN) Digital Media Citizenship design frame work. It looks at a sample of youth from Silicon Valley and focuses analysis on the relationship between the 21st-century dispositions outlined in the DYN framework and digital making experience. It reports on a subset of measures from the survey, including home access, prior experiences, current digital activities, and those related to constructive, social, and critical dispositions.
