摘要

In space habitat construction, the application of kit-of-parts concepts and construction robotics is of particular interest, due to flexibility, compactness of transport, and the ability to erect structures in harsh, unsafe environments autonomously. In this paper, Kit-of-parts Theory and automated construction principles are discussed in depth, and some attributes and specifications of a conceptual integrated spacebased construction system are delineated. Special attention will be given to the discussion of the optimum scale of components, joint design, parametric pressure vessels, parametric kinematic mechanisms, and in-situ assembly / disassembly. The paper will conclude with some thoughts on the development of sustainable, closed construction systems that rely on in-situ materials and manufacturing.
