摘要
Unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and other waterborne robots are able to address critical capability requirements for many customers; however, they are subject to challenges, including limited communications and harsh environments, which create capability gaps. The GhostSwimmer™ is being developed as a tactical, biomimetic autonomous artificial fish UUV that will provide advanced mobility in a system that employs payloads. This paper details challenges to overcome for future AUVs; the science of biomimetics and how it intersects with underwater operation; leveraging biology to advance the state of the art; and the present and future of biomimetic underwater robotics.
