Zehan Wu’s research lies at the intersection of neural engineering and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), with a focus on decoding motor intent from deep brain structures. In a pioneering 2017 study, Wu demonstrated that stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) depth electrodes could record hand-movement-related neural modulation from areas inside the central sulcus, laying groundwork for prosthetic hand control using signals from otherwise inaccessible brain regions.
