About
Zach Dovey is a pioneering urologic surgeon and researcher whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of robotic prostate cancer surgery. His primary research focuses on optimizing functional outcomes—particularly the early return of urinary continence and preservation of erectile function—without compromising oncological control. Dovey’s most influential contribution is the development of the “Hood Technique” for robotic radical prostatectomy, a novel approach that preserves key periurethral anatomical structures in the Space of Retzius and spares the pouch of Douglas. This technique, detailed in his 2020 paper (153 citations), has been shown to enable significantly earlier return of continence while maintaining excellent surgical margin rates.
