Dr. Yunbyung Chae is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose research has significantly advanced the field of minimally invasive prostate cancer surgery. His work centers on refining robotic-assisted techniques to improve oncologic outcomes while reducing patient morbidity. In a landmark 2010 study, Dr. Chae conducted a rigorous comparison of transperitoneal versus extraperitoneal robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, providing crucial evidence that both approaches offer comparable oncologic results and functional outcomes—a finding that has guided surgical decision-making and earned 85 citations. Demonstrating remarkable innovation, he was among the first to explore the frontier of robot-assisted laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (R-LESS).
