About
Yu-Yin Liu is a pioneering surgeon–researcher whose work sits at the intersection of minimally invasive surgery, robotics, and gastrointestinal oncology. Her most influential contributions address two of the most technically demanding frontiers in modern surgery: minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy (MIPD) and flexible endoluminal robotics. In her landmark 2016 systematic review (62 citations), Liu critically assessed the feasibility and oncologic safety of laparoscopic and robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy, providing essential evidence that helped shape clinical adoption of these complex procedures. Building on this, she led the development of “Endoluminal Surgical Triangulation 2.0,” a novel master–slave flexible robotic platform designed to overcome the instrument limitations of traditional endoscopy. Her 2017 preclinical study (54 citations) demonstrated the system’s capability for colonic submucosal dissection, introducing a new paradigm for intraluminal surgical triangulation. By bridging the gap between rigid laparoscopy and flexible endoscopy, Liu’s work has opened new possibilities for scarless, organ-sparing interventions.
