About
Young Taik Oh is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work has centered on advancing minimally invasive techniques in renal and prostate surgery. His major contributions lie in refining robot-assisted procedures to reduce operative morbidity and improve patient outcomes. Notably, his 2013 study on "Simplified Zero Ischemia in Robot Assisted Partial Nephrectomy" introduced a novel approach using preoperative CT angiography and conventional laparoscopic bulldog clamps to eliminate renal ischemia during tumor resection, demonstrating both safety and feasibility in a seven-patient series. This work, cited 15 times, has helped shift the paradigm toward nephron-sparing surgery. Earlier, Oh was among the early adopters of the da Vinci surgical system in South Korea, as documented in his 2007 report on the first four robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomies performed at Yonsei University. With 14 citations, this foundational study helped establish robotic prostatectomy as a viable treatment for organ-confined prostate cancer in the region. Through these contributions, Oh has been instrumental in bringing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive urologic care to Korean patients, setting benchmarks for surgical innovation and safety.
