About
Yeong-Chin Jou is a leading urologic oncologist whose research focuses on upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) and the environmental origins of prostate cancer. In a landmark 2021 study drawing on the Taiwan UTUC Collaboration Group database, Jou compared hand-assisted, laparoscopic, and robotic nephroureterectomy techniques, providing critical evidence on oncological outcomes and surgical complications for patients with UTUC. This work, cited 24 times, has helped guide surgical decision-making in minimally invasive urologic oncology. More recently, Jou has broken new ground in molecular epidemiology, demonstrating that phthalate exposure drives prostate cancer through a novel microRNA-5010/Nrf2-EGR1/GDF15 signaling pathway. Analyzing cohorts of 204 biopsy patients and 85 additional cases, this 2025 study (6 citations) illuminates how environmental toxins may reprogram gene expression in the prostate.
