About
Wanli Zheng is a researcher at the forefront of computational intelligence and precision agriculture, making significant strides in both algorithm optimization and automated crop monitoring. Zheng’s foundational work in metaheuristic optimization led to the development of an improved Sparrow Search Algorithm, which integrates iterative local search to overcome the algorithm’s tendency toward premature convergence and poor individual utilization. This contribution, published in 2021 and cited 56 times, demonstrated superior performance on 23 benchmark functions and the CEC 2017 test suite, establishing a more robust tool for complex optimization problems. Building on this algorithmic expertise, Zheng has pivoted toward impactful applications in agricultural robotics. As lead author of the RTMFusion architecture (2024), Zheng pioneered a dual-stream algorithm that fuses RGB and depth features for precise instance segmentation of tomato organs. This work has been extended into an end-to-end system for maturity prediction and hierarchical counting of cherry tomatoes, as well as a robust counting framework for greenhouse inspection robots using YOLOv8 and inter-frame prediction. By addressing the critical need for accurate, automated yield estimation and ripeness monitoring, Zheng’s research directly reduces the labor-intensive and error-prone nature of manual counting, offering scalable solutions for modern greenhouse management.
