About
Thordis Thomsen is a leading researcher in the perioperative care and surgical outcomes of robotic-assisted surgery, with a particular focus on gynaecological oncology and anaesthesia. Her work has been instrumental in evaluating the clinical and economic trade-offs of robotic-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy (RALH) for women with endometrial cancer. Through prospective cohort studies and systematic reviews, Thomsen has demonstrated that RALH is a safe and effective alternative to open surgery, while also rigorously assessing its impact on health-related quality of life and hospital costs. Her landmark meta-analysis of four RCTs on robot-assisted versus open radical cystectomy (44 citations) and her cost-analysis of RALH versus total abdominal hysterectomy (30 citations) provide crucial evidence for surgical decision-making. She has also pioneered research into anaesthetic choice for robotic surgery, comparing total intravenous anaesthesia with inhalational agents (65 citations). By combining clinical outcomes with patient-reported experiences and economic data, Thomsen’s work bridges the gap between surgical innovation and value-based care, offering actionable insights for surgeons, anaesthetists, and healthcare administrators.
