About
Tania Contardo is a leading figure in minimally invasive surgical oncology, whose work has fundamentally reshaped colorectal and gastric cancer surgery. Her research focuses on the evolution from laparoscopic to robotic-assisted techniques, with a central emphasis on improving anastomotic safety and expanding the boundaries of minimally invasive multiquadrant abdominal surgery. Contardo’s seminal 2013 case-control study (125 citations) established the superiority of robotic-assisted intracorporeal anastomosis over traditional extracorporeal methods in right hemicolectomy, directly reducing postoperative complications. She further pioneered the technical advancement from hybrid robot-assisted procedures to totally robotic right colectomies, as detailed in her 2018 work (54 citations), demonstrating the feasibility of complex multiquadrant resections.
