About

Takashi Maeda is a leading figure in the advancement of minimally invasive surgery, with a particular focus on the frontiers of robotic and tele-surgical systems. His pioneering work is best exemplified by his groundbreaking 2009 study on the tele-control of an endoscopic surgical robot system between Japan and Thailand for Tele-NOTES (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery). This highly cited work (10 citations) demonstrated the global feasibility of remote robotic surgery, successfully performing complex procedures through natural orifices and paving the way for transcontinental surgical collaboration. More recently, Maeda has turned his expertise to refining modern surgical practice. He is the principal investigator of a major multicenter randomized controlled trial (2025) investigating the feasibility of non-routine abdominal drainage in minimally invasive liver surgery (MILS).
