Takafumi Toita is a leading figure in gynecologic oncology, best known for his work in refining surgical and radiotherapeutic approaches for cervical cancer. His research centers on reducing treatment invasiveness without compromising oncologic outcomes, particularly for early-stage disease. Toita served as the principal investigator of the pivotal JCOG1101 trial, a single-arm confirmatory study that evaluated modified radical hysterectomy for FIGO stage IB1 cervical cancer with tumors 2 cm or smaller.
