About
Stefano Fanti is a leading urologic oncologist whose research is reshaping the management of prostate cancer through a focus on precision diagnostics and minimally invasive therapies. His work centers on the clinical application of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) imaging and its integration with advanced surgical techniques. A major contribution is his systematic review on focal ablative therapy for localized prostate cancer, which critically evaluated the evidence against standard management, highlighting limitations and providing essential clinical recommendations—a work that has garnered 52 citations and influenced treatment paradigms. Fanti is also pioneering the use of immunohistochemistry to analyze PSMA expression in high-risk prostate cancer biopsies, directly informing patient selection for PSMA-PET imaging and improving staging accuracy. Most recently, he has developed an augmented reality technique using PSMA-3D guidance for robotic pelvic lymph node dissection, a novel approach that enhances intraoperative identification of metastatic nodes. With a growing citation impact and a portfolio of innovative, practice-changing studies, Fanti is at the forefront of translating molecular imaging into tangible surgical and therapeutic benefits for prostate cancer patients.
