About
Shozo Saegusa is a pioneering researcher in assistive robotics, best known for his foundational work on guide-dog robots designed to enhance mobility for visually impaired individuals. His research centers on human–robot interaction, obstacle detection, and safe navigation systems tailored for human-guided walking. Saegusa’s major contributions include the development of a conceptual Guide-Dog Robot prototype that integrates a movable platform, intuitive human-machine interface, and real-time obstacle avoidance. His most cited paper, “Development of a guide-dog robot: human–robot interface considering walking conditions for a visually handicapped person” (2011, 25 citations), established key design principles for leading and recognizing a user using a laser range finder (LRF).
