About

Shiva Dibaj is a leading urologic oncologist whose research has fundamentally advanced the surgical management of bladder cancer, particularly through the refinement and validation of robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC). Her work is centered on improving oncologic outcomes, standardizing surgical quality, and optimizing perioperative care for patients undergoing this complex procedure. Dr. Dibaj’s most impactful contribution is her pivotal role in the International Robotic Cystectomy Consortium (IRCC), where she led the landmark study on long-term oncologic outcomes following RARC, which has been cited over 170 times and established the procedure’s oncologic safety. She further transformed the field by developing and validating a novel Quality Assurance Score for RARC, providing a reproducible framework to assess and improve surgical performance over a decade. Additionally, she created the Pelvic Lymphadenectomy Assessment and Completion Evaluation (PLACE) tool, an intraoperative scoring system that enables surgeons to objectively evaluate the completeness of lymph node dissection—a critical factor in staging and survival. Through these innovations, Dr. Dibaj has provided the urologic community with essential tools for quality control and outcome prediction, cementing her reputation as a key architect of evidence-based robotic cystectomy.
