About
Shigeru Yamagishi is a leading colorectal surgeon whose research has significantly advanced the safety and standardization of minimally invasive surgery for rectal cancer. His primary research areas include laparoscopic and robotic colectomy, with a particular focus on optimizing surgical quality and outcomes for locally advanced rectal cancer. Yamagishi’s most impactful contribution is his leadership in the PRODUCT trial (2022), a landmark Japanese multicenter prospective study that rigorously evaluated laparoscopic surgery for locally advanced rectal cancer using the universal quality indicators of circumferential resection margin (CRM) and total mesorectal excision (TME) quality.
