About
Dr. Shengkun Sun is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose research focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques for complex urological conditions, particularly urolithiasis and bladder cancer. His major contributions center on the innovative application of robotic-assisted surgery to improve patient outcomes and expand the boundaries of what is achievable with single-site and intracorporeal approaches. Notably, Dr. Sun was among the first to report on the use of the da Vinci surgical system for robot-assisted laparoendoscopic single-site surgery to simultaneously manage multiple urinary tract calculi, a challenging procedure that reduces surgical trauma. He also developed and described the “V-O manner” for ureter-ileal anastomosis during robotic-assisted radical cystectomy, a novel technique designed to minimize the risk of postoperative urine leakage and stricture.
