Seiji Okuizumi has made foundational contributions to renal proteomics, with a particular focus on the human kidney glomerulus—a critical structure in blood filtration and the primary site of damage in many kidney diseases. His landmark 2005 study, which has garnered 72 citations, established the first comprehensive two-dimensional electrophoretic profile of the normal human glomerulus proteome.
