About
Sara Seager is a pioneering astrophysicist and planetary scientist whose work has fundamentally reshaped the search for life beyond our solar system. Her research centers on exoplanet atmospheres, theoretical biosignatures, and the development of space-based telescopes to detect habitable worlds. Seager is perhaps best known for her groundbreaking contributions to exoplanet characterization—she was among the first to model the atmospheres of hot Jupiters and super-Earths, and her theoretical framework for detecting signs of life on distant planets has become a cornerstone of astrobiology. Her impact is immense: her most-cited papers have accumulated tens of thousands of citations, and she has been recognized with numerous honors, including a MacArthur Fellowship, election to the National Academy of Sciences, and the naming of asteroid 9729 Seager in her honor.
