About

Osamu Sakura is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of neuroscience, robotics, and cultural studies. His work uniquely bridges neuroengineering with the humanities, exploring how brain–machine interfaces (BMIs) can restore motor function while also examining the cultural and religious factors shaping human–robot relationships. Sakura led a landmark nationwide survey of 780 Japanese patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), revealing their status and expectations for BMI technologies—a study that has garnered 20 citations and directly informs patient-centered neuroprosthetic design.
