N. Joseph Espat is a pioneering surgical oncologist whose career has been defined by his groundbreaking contributions to minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery, particularly in the treatment of esophageal disease. His landmark 2003 paper on robotic-assisted minimally invasive transhiatal esophagectomy, which has garnered 172 citations, helped establish the technical and clinical framework for applying robotic technology to one of surgery's most complex procedures.
