About
Mika Mizuno is a pioneering gynecologic surgeon whose research sits at the forefront of robotic and minimally invasive surgery for gynecological diseases. Based at Kagoshima University, Mizuno has made landmark contributions to the clinical adoption of next-generation surgical robotics, most notably by leading the world's first robot-assisted total hysterectomy using Japan's hinotori™ Surgical Robot System — a milestone achievement that earned 39 citations and established a new benchmark in the field. Mizuno's body of work systematically validates the safety, efficacy, and comparative performance of robotic platforms — particularly the hinotori™ versus the established da Vinci® Xi — across a range of procedures including hysterectomy, sacrocolpopexy, and sentinel lymph node navigation surgery in endometrial and cervical cancers. With studies encompassing hundreds of patients, Mizuno has helped demonstrate that sentinel node navigation surgery can reduce surgical morbidity without compromising oncologic outcomes in early-stage gynecologic cancers. Collectively accumulating nearly 90 citations within just a few years, Mizuno's research is rapidly shaping clinical practice in Japan and beyond. Their work also addresses real-world considerations such as obesity's impact on surgical outcomes, reflecting a commitment to translating evidence into equitable, patient-centered care.
