Miguel A. Cuesta is a pioneering surgical researcher whose career spans minimally invasive surgery, robotic-assisted procedures, and esophageal oncology. He is perhaps best recognized as an early champion of robot-assisted laparoscopic vascular surgery, having published foundational case reports and comparative studies on aortobifemoral bypass for aortoiliac occlusive disease beginning in 2002—work that collectively garnered over 220 citations and helped establish the clinical and technical feasibility of robotic aortic surgery. His 2004 comparative pig-model study and subsequent clinical series through 2011 provided the field with rigorous evidence supporting the adoption of these complex minimally invasive approaches.
