About
Dr. Mariangela Mancini is a pioneering surgeon and researcher whose work is at the forefront of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, with a particular focus on robotic and laparoendoscopic single-site (LESS) techniques. Her major contributions lie in advancing surgical approaches for early-stage endometrial cancer and complex pelvic organ prolapse (POP). In a landmark 2013 double-institution case–control study (57 citations), Dr. Mancini provided critical comparative evidence on robotic single-site hysterectomy (RSS-H) versus LESS hysterectomy, helping to define the safety and feasibility of these innovative methods. She has also made significant strides in pelvic reconstructive surgery, notably through a 2023 propensity-matched study (11 citations) comparing sacrocolpopexy with hysterectomy to robotic sacral hysteropexy, and by developing the novel "Cupid and Psyche" robotic hysterosacropexy technique. Furthermore, her clinical acumen is demonstrated in a 2020 case series (4 citations) that systematically examined the rare but serious complication of incarcerated trocar-site hernias after robotic surgery. Through these impactful studies, Dr. Mancini has not only advanced surgical precision but also enhanced patient safety and outcomes in gynecologic oncology and urogynecology.
