About

Dr. Li Zhen is a pioneering surgical oncologist whose research centers on gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive surgery, and translational tumor modeling. Dr. Li’s most impactful contribution is the establishment of the patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDTX) model for gynecological tumors, a breakthrough detailed in their highly cited 2019 work (16 citations). By transplanting fresh tumor tissues from patients into immunodeficient NCG mice, Dr. Li created a powerful platform for personalized drug testing and biological study, directly bridging bench research to bedside care. In a remarkable display of technical innovation, Dr. Li also led the first reported multidisciplinary robotic-assisted laparoscopic and thoracoscopic resection of intravascular leiomyomatosis with intracardiac extension (2022), demonstrating that even the most complex, life-threatening tumor extensions can be managed through a minimally invasive approach. This work showcases Dr. Li’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of surgical technique while prioritizing patient recovery. With a career defined by translational impact and surgical daring, Dr. Li Zhen is a vital figure for students and researchers interested in the future of gynecologic cancer therapy and advanced surgical robotics.
