About
Dr. Koo Jeong Kang is a pioneering hepatobiliary surgeon whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of laparoscopic and open liver surgery. His primary research focuses on establishing standardized safety and efficacy benchmarks for major hepatic resections. Dr. Kang’s landmark contribution is the 2012 multicenter study on laparoscopic major liver resection in Korea, which analyzed over 1,000 cases across twelve tertiary centers. This work, cited 69 times, was instrumental in demonstrating that complex laparoscopic liver procedures could be performed safely on a national scale, helping to shift global surgical practice toward minimally invasive approaches. More recently, Dr. Kang led the development of novel benchmark values for open major anatomic hepatectomy in non-cirrhotic patients (2023, 13 citations). This study provides critical, evidence-based reference points for best achievable outcomes, enabling surgeons worldwide to objectively compare their results and improve patient care.
