About
Dr. Ki Hwan Hong is a pioneering surgeon whose work sits at the intersection of head and neck oncology and advanced robotic surgery. His primary research focus is the refinement and expansion of minimally invasive techniques for thyroid cancer and cervical lymph node metastases. Dr. Hong’s most significant contribution is his pioneering work on robotic modified radical neck dissection (MRND) using the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA). His landmark 2020 study, which has garnered 19 citations, was the first to assess the feasibility and outcomes of this complex procedure using the da Vinci Xi system. By demonstrating that robotic MRND via BABA is a safe and effective alternative to traditional open surgery, Dr. Hong has helped reduce the morbidity associated with neck dissections, offering patients improved cosmetic results and faster recovery without compromising oncologic safety. This work positions him as a key innovator in the field, advancing the frontier of scarless, robotic head and neck surgery.
