About
Kevin El‐Hayek is a pioneering surgeon whose work has reshaped minimally invasive hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery, with a particular focus on robotic and laparoscopic techniques for rare abdominal disorders. His landmark 2011 paper describing the first human surgery using the da Vinci Single-Site platform for cholecystectomy (193 citations) established him as an early adopter and innovator in single-port robotic surgery. El‐Hayek is internationally recognized for his extensive work on median arcuate ligament (MAL) syndrome, where he has advanced both surgical technique and scientific understanding. He published the first histopathologic grading system for MAL release with celiac ganglionectomy (2023), providing a critical framework for correlating tissue pathology with patient outcomes. His comparative studies of robotic versus laparoscopic MAL release (2021) and his investigations into pediatric outcomes (2024) have helped standardize care for this rare condition.
