About
Joseph Curry is a leading otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon whose research centers on transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for oropharyngeal cancer and obstructive sleep apnea. His pioneering work has helped establish TORS as a safe, effective alternative to traditional open surgery and chemoradiation, particularly for HPV-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Curry’s most cited study (77 citations) evaluates the feasibility and limitations of TORS for parapharyngeal space tumors, while his influential 2019 paper (48 citations) addresses the critical need for evidence-based opioid-prescribing guidelines in otolaryngology. He has also compared TORS to upper airway stimulation for sleep apnea (38 citations) and examined how smoking affects survival in HPV-positive patients treated with TORS (38 citations). With over 350 total citations, Curry’s contributions include demonstrating the safety of early TORS program adoption, developing preoperative cephalometric analysis to predict surgical access, and assessing functional and survival outcomes in elderly patients. His work continues to shape minimally invasive surgical practice and postoperative pain management in head and neck oncology.
