About

Joseph A. Califano is a pioneering head and neck surgeon whose work has fundamentally advanced the field of transoral robotic surgery (TORS). His research focuses on developing and validating minimally invasive techniques for treating laryngeal, oropharyngeal, and hypopharyngeal cancers. Dr. Califano’s major contributions include establishing standardized, competency-based training curricula for TORS, as demonstrated in his highly cited works on objective skill assessment and ex vivo dissection models.
