About

Dr. Jin Hyang Jung is a pioneering surgeon whose work has fundamentally reshaped the landscape of thyroid surgery, with a primary focus on advancing robotic and minimally invasive techniques. Her major contributions center on the development and refinement of the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) for robotic thyroidectomy, a method that eliminates visible neck scars. In a landmark study of 300 robotic thyroid surgeries, she demonstrated the safety and efficacy of this approach, reporting outcomes comparable to conventional open surgery. Her research on the learning curve for BABA robotic thyroidectomy, analyzing the first 100 cases, has provided essential guidance for surgeons adopting this complex technique. Dr. Jung has also been at the forefront of scarless surgery, pioneering the real scarless transoral robotic thyroidectomy using three ports without axillary incision. Her work extends to quality of life studies, where she showed that robotic thyroidectomy survivors report better cosmetic outcomes and quality of life than those who underwent open surgery. With over 200 citations across her most influential papers, Dr. Jung’s innovations in fluorescence imaging-guided surgery and parathyroid preservation have further cemented her reputation as a leader in robotic endocrine surgery.
