About
Jie Sheng Chen is a prominent molecular geneticist whose research centers on the genetics of cancer predisposition, with a particular focus on the ATM gene and its role in ataxia-telangiectasia and cancer risk. Chen’s most significant contribution is the development and application of DOVAM-S, a highly sensitive mutation scanning technique that overcomes the challenges of analyzing large, complex genes. In a landmark 2003 study, Chen applied this method to comprehensively scan all 66 exons of the ATM gene, successfully identifying mutations that had been notoriously difficult to detect due to the gene’s size and lack of mutation hotspots.
