Dr. Jessica Jordan is a leading head and neck surgical oncologist whose research focuses on swallowing outcomes and quality of life following transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). Her landmark prospective study, "A prospective evaluation of short‐term dysphagia after transoral robotic surgery for squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx" (2017, 50 citations), was among the first to rigorously characterize the acute, perioperative swallowing difficulties patients experience after TORS. By systematically documenting the trajectory and severity of short-term dysphagia, Dr. Jordan provided critical evidence that, while TORS offers superior long-term swallowing function compared to chemoradiation, the immediate postoperative period presents significant challenges requiring proactive management.
