About
Jean Philippe Lafore is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on the dynamics of tropical meteorology, particularly the West African monsoon system. As a key figure in the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA) program, Lafore has made fundamental contributions to understanding how convective systems, aerosols, and radiation interact in the Sahel. His highly cited 2015 study on the importance of aerosol composition for estimating incoming solar radiation demonstrated that mineral dust and biomass burning aerosols significantly alter surface shortwave flux calculations over West Africa.
