Jaye McLaren is a researcher dedicated to improving quality of life for people with Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) through innovative technology and person-centered care. Her primary research areas include mobile telepresence robotics, aging-in-place interventions, and the cognitive psychology of future thinking in dementia. McLaren’s most influential work, a 2022 study on improving mobile telepresence robots for people with ADRD, has garnered 21 citations and used semistructured stakeholder interviews to identify key design and usability needs—directly informing how robots can help individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or ADRD live independently at home. This work addresses a critical gap as nearly 13 million Americans are projected to have ADRD by 2050, most receiving home care. In a complementary 2023 study, McLaren explored how poor insight and impaired future thinking in early dementia limit patients’ ability to project the utility of technological innovations or engage in advanced care planning.
