About

Dr. Hwang Gyun Jeon is a pioneering urologic surgeon whose work has significantly advanced the fields of robotic and minimally invasive surgery for prostate and kidney cancers. His research is centered on refining surgical techniques and improving oncologic and functional outcomes, with a particular focus on robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and partial nephrectomy. A major contribution includes demonstrating how preoperative multiparametric 3.0-T MRI can accurately guide the decision to preserve or resect neurovascular bundles during RARP (96 citations), directly impacting postoperative potency and cancer control. He also investigated the critical role of membranous urethral length, measured by 3 Tesla MRI, in predicting urinary continence recovery after RARP (52 citations). Dr. Jeon is a leader in laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS), reporting one of the largest early series of 171 consecutive cases (58 citations) and developing innovative homemade single-port devices (95 citations). His comparative studies on transperitoneal versus retroperitoneal robotic partial nephrectomy, evaluated using nephrometry scores and Pentafecta criteria (66 and 33 citations), have helped standardize surgical approaches for complex renal tumors. Through these impactful studies, Dr. Jeon has shaped modern urologic practice by integrating advanced imaging with precision robotics to enhance patient quality of life.
