About
Dr. Hsiao-Hui Hsu is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of technology-enhanced language learning and human-computer interaction. Her primary research areas include robot-assisted language learning, artificial intelligence (AI) in education, and virtual reality (VR) applications for communicative competence. Dr. Hsu’s most significant contribution is her innovative integration of AI and VR into English tour guide training, as demonstrated in her highly cited 2022 action research study (81 citations). In this work, she developed a groundbreaking application system that uses robots as interactive tools for language practice, combining AI-driven content generation with immersive 3D VR environments built using the Unity plug-in. This approach not only enhances learners’ speaking and presentation skills but also provides realistic, low-anxiety practice settings. Her work has been widely recognized for bridging the gap between emerging technologies and practical language pedagogy, offering a scalable model for experiential learning. By empowering students to program and interact with AI-powered robots, Dr. Hsu has opened new avenues for autonomous, engaging language education. Her research continues to inspire educators and technologists seeking to transform traditional language instruction through intelligent, immersive systems.
