Dr. Hodo Haxhimolla is a pioneering Australian urological surgeon whose work has significantly advanced the field of robotic surgery, particularly in prostate cancer treatment. His research focuses on the implementation, safety, and efficacy of telerobotic surgical systems, with a landmark contribution being his 2005 study on the installation and initial experience with telerobotic radical prostatectomy using the da Vinci Surgical System. This highly cited work (66 citations) demonstrated that even surgeons without prior laparoscopic training could safely learn and perform robotic prostatectomies, effectively lowering the barrier to entry for this minimally invasive technique. More recently, Dr. Haxhimolla has contributed to the evidence base for robotic simple prostatectomy, publishing the first Australian patient cohort study in 2023 on the modified Freyer’s approach.
