About
Helen Crowe is a pioneering urological surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the field of robotic-assisted prostate cancer surgery. Her work centers on three key areas: refining surgical techniques for robotic radical prostatectomy, improving oncological and functional outcomes, and addressing the quality of life challenges faced by prostate cancer survivors. Her landmark 2009 study, cited over 200 times, established the safety and efficacy of robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy by analyzing 400 cases with a minimum 12-month follow-up, demonstrating that non-laparoscopic surgeons could successfully adopt this technology. Crowe was also instrumental in introducing telerobotic surgery to Australia, with her 2005 paper documenting the installation and initial experience with the da Vinci system. Beyond the operating room, she has explored the psychological and functional recovery of patients, including a notable study on penile prosthesis surgery outcomes and a groundbreaking first-in-human trial of an implantable neurostimulator for erectile function rehabilitation.
