About

Hilda A. de Barros is a pioneering surgeon-scientist at the forefront of precision-guided robotic surgery for prostate cancer. Her research focuses on integrating molecular imaging—particularly prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) targeting—with robotic-assisted interventions to improve the accuracy of lymph node staging and salvage surgery. She led the first prospective feasibility study of robot-assisted PSMA-radioguided salvage surgery using the DROP-IN gamma probe (73 citations), and co-authored the first-in-patient phase 2a trial of OTL78 for intraoperative fluorescence imaging of PSMA-positive prostate cancer (54 citations). Her work has demonstrated that preoperative negative PSMA PET can predict low-risk lymph node metastases, potentially sparing patients from extended pelvic lymph node dissection.
