H. Hogeveen is a pioneering researcher in dairy farm automation and precision livestock management, whose work has fundamentally shaped the modern understanding of automatic milking systems (AMS). With a career spanning more than two decades, Hogeveen has made landmark contributions to the design, implementation, and economic evaluation of robotic milking technologies. His highly cited 2004 overview, "Automatic milking, a better understanding" (148 citations), helped establish a comprehensive scientific framework for AMS adoption, while his 2001 study on milking intervals and milk flow-rates (146 citations) provided critical operational insights that continue to guide farm management decisions. His 2007 profitability analysis (100 citations) broke new ground by moving beyond simulation models to deliver data-driven evidence from real Dutch dairy farms, directly informing investment decisions across the industry.
