About
Gian-Battista Chierchia is a leading cardiac electrophysiologist whose research focuses on catheter ablation technologies for atrial fibrillation, with particular expertise in cryoballoon ablation and emerging pulsed field ablation (PFA) techniques. His work has significantly advanced our understanding of procedural complications and safety, most notably phrenic nerve injury—the most common complication after cryoballoon ablation. In his 2019 study on robot-assisted thoracoscopic diaphragm plication for symptomatic diaphragm paralysis post-cryoballoon ablation, he provided critical insights into the anatomical risks on the right side due to the phrenic nerve's proximity to pulmonary veins, establishing key teaching points for clinicians.
