About

Gennady Bratslavsky is a pioneering urologic oncologist and surgeon whose research has fundamentally advanced the field of minimally invasive kidney cancer surgery. His work centers on robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy, particularly for the most challenging cases—including hilar tumors, multiple renal masses, and tumors exceeding 4 cm. Bratslavsky’s landmark 2008 multi-institutional study on robotic partial nephrectomy for renal hilar tumors (166 citations) established the feasibility and safety of this approach for anatomically complex tumors previously deemed too risky for minimally invasive techniques. He further demonstrated that robotic surgery could preserve renal function even in patients with hereditary cancer syndromes requiring multiple ipsilateral procedures, as shown in his work on multiplex and repeat partial nephrectomies. Beyond kidney surgery, Bratslavsky developed novel robotic techniques for adrenal tumors, including the first reported robotic partial adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma.
